Abstract:
Today, GIS continues to evolve rapidly enabled in part by the evolution
of competing platform technology, increasing social demands for
geographic knowledge and finally by the creative thinking and algorithm
development of software engineers. This paper presentation will explore
the science and application routes, provide some suggestions of where
the technology will evolve and what this means for society in general. |

Biography: Jack Dangermond is the founder and president of
ESRI. Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Redlands, California, ESRI
is widely recognized as the technical and market leader in geographic
information system (GIS) software, pioneering innovative solutions for
working with spatial data on the desktop, across the enterprise, in the
field, and on the Web. ESRI has the largest GIS software installation
base in the world with more than one million users in over 300,000
organizations worldwide. He fostered the growth of ESRI from a small
research group to an organization of more than 3,100 employees, known
internationally for GIS software development, training, and services.
Mr. Dangermond holds ten honorary doctorates from Technical University
for Civil Engineering of Bucharest; California State Polytechnic
University, Pomona; State University of New York, Buffalo; University
of West Hungary; City University London; University of Redlands,
California; Loma Linda University, California; and Ferris State
University, Michigan, University of Arizona, and the University of
Minnesota.
